WINNER: Dustin Sawyers of Odessa, 11.89, 52mph
RUNNER UP: Elizabeth Low of Midland, 10.51, 61mph.
Alyssa Carter of Odessa third, 8.14, 79mph
Dakota Huff of Midland fourth, 10.69, 59mph
Elizabeth Low claimed the 2009 West Texas Cruisers Junior Dragster Championship at Desert Thunder Raceway on Saturday night. She wrapped up the championship in dramatic come from behind fashion with a second place finish in the last points race of the season.
Despite missing the first two races this year, Elizabeth drove her way into contention with a victory in the first race she attended and consistent podium finishes in the final three. Going into Saturday night's double points race, she found herself in 3rd place only 3 points out of the lead. With at least 6 other drivers in contention she clinched the championship with a semi-final round win in a very tight points race.
